AutoComparo: New N160 Against Other 160s

The all-new Pulsar N160 features an impressive mill. Now, the question is, how good is it against the other existing 160s?

The Bajaj Pulsar N160 is finally here witha brand-new 160cc engine from the Chakan plant. Not to forget, it is also the first motorcycle in the 160cc segment to receive a dual-channel ABS setup. Given how crowded the 160cc segment is in India, it is crucial to put the newly launched N160 against the existing 160s and see how it fares against them.

In the following paragraphs, we have drawn a comparison between the power figures of all the sporty 160cc motorcycles available in the Indian market.

Bajaj Pulsar N160

The newly-launched Bajaj Pulsar N160 is powered by a brand-new 164.82cc, single-cylinder, four-stroke, SOHC, two-valve, oil-cooled, FI engine tuned to produce a peak power output of 15.7bhp at 8,750rpm and makes a maximum torque number of 14.65Nm at 6,750rpm. The N160 starts at INR 1.23 lakh and goes up to INR 1.28 lakh for the dual-channel ABS variant.

TVS Apache RTR 160

From Hosur-based manufacturer TVS, the Apache RTR 160 draws power from a 159.7cc, SI, four-stroke, air-cooled engine that makes a peak power output of 15.31bhp at 8,400rpm and 13.9Nm at 7,000rpm of peak torque. The motorcycle is priced between INR 1.12 lakh and INR 1.15 lakh. While one variant features a rear disc, the lower-priced trim does not.

Hero Xtreme 160R

After struggling with several 150-160cc motorcycles, Hero finally delivered the Xtreme 160R model a few years ago, which impressed us to a great extent. The 163cc mill of the Xtreme 160R makes 15bhp at 8,500rpm of power and a torque of 14Nm at 6,500rpm and has a tag of INR 1.36-1.42 lakh.

TVS Apache RTR 160 4V

The closest rival of the Pulsar N160 is this Apache and in our opinion, this motorcycle is already a winner because of its four-valved engine and a mill that generates 17.39bhp at 9,250rpm of peak power and a maximum torque of 14.73Nm at 7,250rpm. However, the 160 4V is expensive (INR 1.30-1.50 lakh) because it is loaded with several modern-day features.

Bajaj Pulsar NS160

Last but not the least, irrespective of launching the new N160, Bajaj has not discontinued the NS160 that makes 17.03bhp at 9,000rpm of peak power and a torque figure of 14.6Nm at 7,250rpm.
