To expand the company’s electric scooter portfolio in the Southeast Asian market, Giken Mobility has acquired Thailand-based Edison Motors

Singapore-based company Giken Mobility has bought a Thailand-based electric scooter manufacturing company named Edison Motors. The deal was wrapped up at a cost of SGP 7.3 million/5.5 million US dollars. Note that now, after the finalisation of the deal, the parent company of Edison Motors is GSS Energy and not Giken Mobility because Giken Mobility is a subsidiary firm of GSS Energy.

What is the relevance of this article?

Electric mobility is the future. In 2022, that is a fact. Therefore, a development in the electric mobility industry is worth a read. Especially when the progress is taking place in Asia. Edison Motors has done well so far and so has Giken Mobility. Together, the two companies can contribute massively to the electric vehicles’ industry.

GSS can access everything that belongs to Edison Motors

After the done deal, GSS Energy and Giken Mobility can access everything that belongs to Edison Motors. The two companies may access the proprietary patents of Edison Motors that include electric motor and battery technologies. Not to forget, scooters under the Edison Motors brand will be available on sale.

Past business transactions between the mentioned parties

Edison Motors may have been acquired recently by GSS-owned Giken Mobility, but the three companies have regularly conducted business since the inception of Edison Motors in 2017. Since 2019, Edison Motors has been providing various services to Giken Mobility in the engineering, designing and technical departments. In the upcoming months, Giken Mobility will launch a few EV products in the Thai market first.

Scooters from Edison Motors

In 2019, Edison Motors launched the Volta scooter with different variants. The first one is the ‘S’ variant that offers a riding range of 150 kilometres with 100Nm of torque. Edison Motors’ second model is the ‘E’ variant that offers the same mileage and torque but has lesser power and top speed. The third model is named the ‘Naked’ that offers the same spec-sheet as the ‘S’ variant. However, the Naked is a scooter with a visible naked frame.

Giken Mobility’s scooter

Last but not the least, in 2021’s International Motorcycle and Accessories Exhibition (EICMA), Giken Mobility unveiled its much-awaited scooter by the name Iso Uno-X. The scooter features an 8.5kW electric motor and is named after the historic Italian car ISO Rivolta.
